Education

I am a proponent of public education, and I have served on the Anderson Five Board of Trustees for 18 years, fighting to make our schools strong. My wife has worked for 41 years in public education, and our three boys are public school graduates. Beyond just earning a degree, education is a critical component of economic development and our students need the skills necessary to be successful in our global economy.

Road and Infrastructure

South Carolina is growing, and it is better to be growing than shrinking, but we have to make sure that growth doesn't outpace infrastructure. Our roads and bridges are in bad shape, and equally concerning is the future of our energy production. We have to upgrade our infrastructure before we open the flood gates to population growth in our state; roads, water and sewer lines, and roundabouts need to be put in proactively, not reactively after neighborhoods are already built.

Working Together

For 18 years I have served on the Anderson Five Board of Trustees, and while I am a staunch Republican, not everyone I have served with has shared my same conservative beliefs. I have had to work with others who don't see things the way that I do to get things done, and I think that is what is lacking in Columbia. I am committed to my principles, but I know that to get things done you have to be able to work with others to share your vision and make a change. Soundbites and "gotcha" moments are the political rage right now, but I want to actually get work done for the people of Anderson County and the State of South Carolina.
